From Staff Reports

The Marble Falls Economic Development Corporation, which originally planned to spend $700,000 to get property at the Business and Technology Park ready for potential buyers, decided at Wednesday’s meeting to divide the project into two portions.

No specifics were mentioned at the meting regarding what portion of the 329-acre tract of the park would be included in the survey and engineering work, but their intent is to fund half of the project in 2010-20-11 and the other half the following year.

At last week’s Marble Falls city council meeting, the EDC was asked to go back and reduce its operational budget to bring it into line with other city departments that were holding down operational expenses. That was not discussed at Wednesday’s meeting.

But the EDC budget that was available to the board showed that instead of reducing any budgeted items, the EDC has added $600,000 in expenses, with $350,000 being put into the budget for the technology park work.

There was $250,000 added to the EDC budget so the board can give the city of Marble Falls funds to pay for the relocation of utilities for the US 281 bridge project that is scheduled for later this year.

The proposed budget was approved with a 5-2 vote with Butch Kemper, Brian Shirley, Karen Carter, Nona Fox and Keith Conrad in favor and David Ives and John Packer against.

For the full story see Friday’s Highlander.

Warren Dale Freeman passed away Friday, Aug. 27 at the age of 53. He was born Sept. 1, 1956 in Burnet to Bonnie Faye (Scott) and Warren Carl Freeman. He married Jil (Landon) Freeman on Aug. 11, 1979 at Lutie Watkins Memorial United Methodist Church in Llano.
After graduating from Llano High School in 1974, Dale went on to obtain degrees from both Southwest Texas and The University of Texas at Austin School of Pharmacy, where he finished at the top of his class. However, this soft-spoken man was known more for his kind heart than his many accomplishments. He was first and foremost a devoted and loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. But many also knew Dale as an avid (and fifth-generation) rancher and business man–a member of the Hill Country Livestock Raisers Association, as well as the Kingsland Chamber of Commerce and Lions Club. Always an entrepreneurial spirit, his business, the Kingsland Pharmacy, was most recently voted 2010‘s “Business of the Year.” His work ethic and selfless outlook on life set an example for all. He loved his family; he loved his ranch; he loved his pharmacy; he loved his community. He was loved by all.
Survivors include his wife, Jil Freeman of Kingsland; three sons, Jason Freeman and wife, Elizabeth, of Dallas, Blake Freeman and Stephen Freeman, both of San Antonio; mother, Bonnie Freeman Dann of Bluffton; brother, Joe Freeman and wife, Carol, of Llano; sister, Kathy Mudd and husband, Gary of Bluffton, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his father, Carl Freeman, in 1964.
Dale began lying in state on Sun., Aug. 29 at noon at the Waldrope-Hatfield Hawthorne Funeral Home Chapel in Llano, and visitation was held there from 5-7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Monday, Aug. 30 at 4 p.m.. at the Llano High School Auditorium with Rev. Tommie Beck officiating. Burial will follow at the Llano City Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Jason Freeman, Blake Freeman, Stephen Freeman, Scott Bradley, Travis Ratliff, Hunter Ratliff, Ross Freeman, Billy Ratliff, and Mark Stephenson. Honorary Pallbearers will be his many friends in Kingsland and Llano County.
Memorials may be made to the Dale Freeman Memorial Scholarship Fund; Prosperity Bank, 1801 W. Ranch Road 1431, Kingsland, Texas 78639
Funeral arrangements made under the direction of Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Homes, Inc. Llano. E-mail condolences may be sent to whhfuneral1@verizon.net or you may log onto, www.whhfuneralhome.com.
