Marilynn Goode, who was elected to the Bertram city council in May as part of a movement that many hoped would end an era of controversy and feuding within the city government, resigned Thursday.

Goode cited conflict with new city secretary Susan Hartline as the reason for her resignation, which is effective immediately.

Hartline was not at work in the city office Friday and could not be reached for comment.

The city council will select a replacement for Goode, said Mayor Winnette Morris, who said Hartline had done nothing wrong.

The next council meeting is July 27, but Morris said she is unsure if a replacement will be selected at that time.
