With Monday’s deadline past, races for the March primary elections in Llano County have been determined.

Andrew Murr, state representative for District 53, has said he won’t run again.

Hatch C. Smith Jr. of Llano and Wesley W. Vir- dell of Mason have filed for that position.

The county will get a new sheriff. Sheriff Bill Blackburn is retiring; current Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Marquis M. Cantu and Leslie C. Hartman have filed to replace him.

Longtime County Clerk Marci Hadeler retired in October and county commissioners named Cecilia McClintock to replace her as interim clerk to finish Hadeler's term through 2024. McClin- tock has filed for the primary election and is unopposed.

Pct. 3 Commissioner Mike Sandoval has not filed for re-election; Brent R. Richards, Karen S. Shaw and Louis T. Guthrie are running to replace him.

Maria E. Silver and Billy A. Fletcher have filed for the Pct. 1 justice of the peace position left vacant when Cantu resigned to run for sheriff.

Michael R. Scoggins and Suzanne M. Wesson will contend to replace Pct. 4 Constable Joe Simpson Jr., who hasn’t filed for re-election.

Filing unopposed for the primary elections are incumbents Llano County Attorney Dwain K. Rogers, Tax Assessor-Collector Kris E. Fogelberg, Pct. 1 Commissioner Peter R. Jones, Pct. 1 Constable Gary L. Silver and Pct. 2 Constable Richard W. Harris.

The primary elections to determine general election candidates for the Republican and Democratic parties are scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024, with voting at locations in Llano, Kingsland and Horseshoe Bay.

Early voting in 2024 will run from Tuesday, Feb. 20, through Thursday, March 1.

Sample ballots will be available on the Llano County web site “soon,” according to the county elections office.
