“It was the worst one I've seen yet,” said Texas Department of
Public Safety, Trooper Simpson, “there is no question that alcohol was the
cause of the accident.” The accident, which is still under investigation,
took place at approximately 10:25 p.m. on Saturday, March 25. “The impact
ripped the bed off the pickup, breaking it in half,” continued Simpson. A
2004 Dodge pickup, driven by William Kent Foster, 24, was headed east on
Hwy. 29, near Deer Springs. The vehicle left the roadway to the right and
Foster overcorrected to the left. The vehicle then slid into the westbound
lane in front of a Ford Van moving westbound. The pickup, with three
occupants was struck broadside by the van. The two passengers were ejected
from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Names of the victims were
not released by DPS. The two passengers were not wearing seatbelts. Foster,
who was wearing a seatbelt was penned inside the vehicle and transported by
helicopter to Brackenridge Hospital in Austin with serious head injuries. He
died in the hospital on Sunday. The two occupants of the van, both wearing
seatbelts, were penned inside the vehicle until law enforcement officials
were able to free them from the vehicle. Both occupants were also
transported by helicopter to Brackenridge Hospital. The driver, Brandon
Willard, 23, was listed in serious condition and the passenger, Melissa Dawn
McKeown, 20 of Burnet was in good condition. Willard, who was a victim of a
drunk driver several years ago, received the van through Johnson-Sewell Ford
and donations from the community. He is a paraplegic from that accident.
