Round Mountain City Attorney Will Moursund creates a rough diagram of the current boundaries of Round Mountain in the presence of a large crowd at Tuesday’s Board of Alderman meeting.

In a crowded meeting Tuesday night, the Round Mountain Board of Alderman and City Attorney Will Moursund informed community members of their intent to increase the City’s footprint to keep it out of the hands of Marble Falls.

In October the town of Round Mountain sent out a letter asking if county residents would be interested in voluntarily annexing portions of their land into city limits. This annexation, which Round Mountain Mayor Alvin Gutierrez said that the Board had been considering for the better part of a year, is primarily to protect properties surrounding Round Mountain from annexation by Marble Falls.

"Round Mountain does not want to be a bedroom taxation base to Marble Falls,” said Moursund to an attentive crowd. "They are a home rule city, Round Mountain is an at- law city. Marble Falls can ram (annexation) down your throats. You can go to Marble Falls and see their aggressive plan for annexation.”

Moursund claimed that several years ago, officials from Marble Falls had contacted the Board to get a feel for how the Town of Round Mountain intended to progress.

You better start building a fire line fast, because Marble Falls city staff is looking for more tax money to spend.

Senor Moursund, stay on top of that situation. Do everything necessary to keep the town of Round Mountain and the surrounding area out of the clutches of the city of Marble Falls.
