Buster retiring; Uptown shows end Dec. 15

November 19, 2012, 6:45 pm by Adam Troxtell

Local businessman Russell Buster is retiring from day-to-day operations as the general manager for the iconic Uptown Marble Theater and no shows are currently planned for the new year after five holiday concerts are completed.

Buster, 60, said he will continue to own the theater, along with Dr. Brooks Blake – a local osteopathic practitioner – but will pursue other interests, including a new downtown structure for shops and living space.

He said he is open to having someone else provide more time and effort toward bringing in entertainment.

"I’d love to find other promoters,” Buster said. "We’re just looking for someone to come along that has other ideas for how this facility might work in our community.”

Five concerts remain on the schedule for 2012, with Brady Beal Band playing Nov. 21 and Monte Montgomery performing Nov. 24. Nashville artist Suzy Bogguss plays Dec. 6 before the Rose of Texas Fair Benefit for the Family Crisis Center is held on Dec. 9. Marcia Ball & Band play a Christmas concert on Dec. 15.

Glad for Russell to have a chance to do something he is interested in, but sure do hate to see him step away from Uptown. He has brought in a lot of good shows.
