Three hospitalized after ambulance hydroplanes

January 10, 2013, 12:30 am by Adam Troxtell

A Marble Falls EMS ambulance fell victim to the wet weather Wednesday morning when it crashed traveling north on US 281.

Two paramedics were transporting one patient to Seton Highland Lakes when their vehicle hydroplaned and crossed the highway to crash in a ditch on the southbound side. All three were taken by Marble Falls EMS to Seton Williamson County with non-life threatening injuries. DPS trooper Jose Colombo said the cause of the crash was excessive speed. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

"On something like this we don’t determine the speed, because obviously when you hydroplane, it’s unsafe,” Colombo said.

It is the second accident in 24 hours on that same stretch of 281. Yesterday, a dump truck also hydroplaned off the road and landed between a telephone pole and a tree on the northbound side. No major injuries were reported in that accident.
