LakeFest gets Lucas Oil honor

January 21, 2013, 6:00 pm by Adam Troxtell

LakeFest was named Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series’ 2012 Event of the Year during the racing league’s Jan. 12 Awards Banquet in Las Vegas.

The Aug. 13-15 event attracted about 8,000 people to the vicinity of Lakeside Park. It was one of eight national events on the Lucas Oil Drag Boat schedule last year, and Series Director Ken Dollar said LakeFest was chosen because of its high level of organization. The Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce is the main LakeFest organizer.

"We were certainly honored and flattered,” Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bill Rives said. "They run dozens of races. I think the kicker for us was we had a good mix of teaming the young with the old who knew all about how to organize that event.”
