Implosion questions deflectedFebruary 21, 2013, 10:00 pm by Adam Troxtell
The subcontractor hired to conduct the demolition of the US 281 bridge was named in a 2007 complaint involving asbestos removal, and its project superintendant along with the general contractor referred questions about the demolition company’s experience with bridge implosions to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The state agency has not provided a response. Omega Demolition Corporation has been retained by general contractor Archer Western to implode the old US 281 bridge. According to its records, the Wisconsin Department of Justice filed an enforcement action against Milwaukee County and others, including Omega, over the demolition of the Milwaukee County Courthouse Annex building in 2007. The State of Wisconsin settled and obtained a judgment against Omega and two other agencies in the case that paid a combined $105,000 in penalties. For the full story, see Friday's Highlander. |
