AUSTIN — Thousands of teachers, school administrators, principals, and concerned parents flooded the south lawn of the Capitol Building in Austin this weekend, and members of Marble Falls ISD were right in the middle of it.

Even Superintendant Rob O’Connor made the trip as part of the Marble Falls contingent at a Save Texas Schools rally and march on Saturday. Educators from across the state converged on the Capitol to express their concern at state budget cuts to public education and the implementation of the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Skills (STAAR) testing system at the same time. STAAR is designed to be more rigorous than previous assessment exams.

"It’s important our legislators hear the teacher voice,” O’Connor said. "It’s something that involves Marble Falls, but is greater than Marble Falls. It’s really about making public education a priority.”
