MF to set up texting serviceMarch 08, 2013, 2:00 pm by Adam Troxtell
A new line of communication between the city and Marble Falls residents will soon be available, allowing citizens to text in problems or ideas. Blackboard ConnectTxt, could be in place within about 30 days. It would enable citizens to simply text-in problems they see around the city, such as potholes or water main breaks, to a number that would let the appropriate city department know. Text messaging can also be used to find out about town events and occurrences. "It uses texting to inform the community and gives them a chance to report things quickly,” City Manager Ralph Hendricks said. "For example, one of the things we talked about it potholes. We’ve also heard there will be opportunities in tourism. You could also text in the word ‘Jobs’ and in return get the address for a website that advertises employment opportunities in town.” Hendricks and City Secretary Christina McDonald have been working on getting the ConnectTxt system set up, which includes developing a list of words and phrases specific to Marble Falls. They presented the new text service to City Council in its Tuesday night meeting. For the full story, see Tuesday's Highlander. |
