Smoke sparks high school evacuation

September 11, 2012, 6:50 pm by Adam Troxtell

Marble Falls High School evacuated students and staff from the building this morning after smoke was observed coming out of an air conditioning vent.

At around 10:30 a.m., students were taken out of classrooms and the high school building as a precautionary measure when front office staff saw smoke filling their room, according to District Spokesman and Interim Marble Falls Elementary Principal Bruce Peckover. Marble Falls Fire Rescue was called to the scene and quickly gave an all clear. They reported there was no fire, and the smoke was caused by a faulty AC motor that will now have to be replaced.

Students and staff were allowed back in within the half-hour. Replacing the motor will not disrupt daily operation, but it will make the front office a warmer place for the time being.
