Board bemoans district AP resultsSeptember 18, 2012, 11:50 am by Adam Troxtell
The way Marble Falls ISD handles advanced placement exams and courses received criticism from school board members after they learned 30 percent of students taking the tests got the lowest score possible. Out of 166 AP exams taken by district students in the 2011-12 academic year in various subjects, 50 received a 1 on the grading scale, and a majority 53 received a 2. While a portion of students, 37 percent, made a 3 or higher on their exams, that amount was not enough for some board members. Kelly Fox was the most outspoken board member on the issue during a Monday night regular meeting, calling the AP program a "perpetual cycle of failure.” "These results are abysmal,” Fox said. "Can we pilot a new way to present AP?” For the full story, see Friday's Highlander.
Reader CommentsOK all you Rocket Scientists. It don't take even an old cowboy to figure out it's cause you ain't teachin' the kids"curriculum"... Are you nimrods or what? When are we as parents going to stand up and say something? All they're teaching is for -a- score on-a- test so they get their money so they can fund the big administrative salaries. Heaven forbid one of those kids misses a day of school, it has nothing to do with missing out on curriculum, lets face it we've all got the riot act from some principal or, god he thinks he is, vice-pricipal about our child missing a day of school. First, it's my child not theirs and once again it has nothing to do with, like they'll say, the child's education it's all about getting paid for that child attending. So come on morons let's get back to being teachers and to hell with this stupid test. Oh, and who was the brilliant d___ a__ who thought it was a good idea to stop teaching cursive writing. It's no wonder our children have such a hard time making life's decisions. And where's all this lottery money going if our kids are still bringing home fund raisers once a week to buy new computers or playground eqipment or more comfortable funiture for the teacher's lounge or where ever it's going. Let's let our kids be studenst instead of salesmen out trying to pay for their education. It's hard enough when they have to work and go to college.....LET THEM BE KIDS AGAIN! |
