BB, Airsoft guns disrupt middle schoolJanuary 30, 2013, 9:00 pm by Adam Troxtell
Marble Falls Police were called in this morning to deal with Marble Falls Middle School students who had brought a BB gun and Airsoft gun to class, one of which was discharged and hit a student. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. this morning when MFMS administrators were told by students that two of their peers had brought in and brandished a BB gun pistol and an Airsoft gun. School district spokesman Bruce Peckover said the students were isolated and their weapons were confiscated and, while administrators approached the situation with caution, there was never any danger to students. Police were aware of what type of weapons the students had before they went in, and there was never a lock down. "It was a couple of students who wanted to show each other their toys,” Peckover said. "There was no malice.” While one student was showing his BB gun to some of his peers, Peckover said it was discharged and struck another student in the hand. The student was attended to by a school nurse but incurred no serious injuries. Like many campuses across the nation, Marble Falls ISD has been reviewing its security policy in the wake of the Sandy Hook school shootings. Peckover said this incident is being investigated by district administrators. "MFISD is taking this incident seriously and will enforce the District Code of Conduct,” Allen Roberts, assistant superintendent of operations, said. "We are also in the middle of a complete security and safety audit of our physical plants, drills and procedures to help provide a safe learning environment for our children.” For the full story, see Friday's Highlander. Reader CommentsSo, let me get this straight, They were arrested for having toys???? hmmmm... A toy is a nerf gun, cap gun, etc... bb gun can do some serious damage, like being hit in the eye, the throat, the head.... Way to try to play it down... Unless of course we are arresting people for having toys.. |
