KMUD getting ready for new compost facility

October 25, 2012, 6:00 pm by Alexandria Randolph

Kingsland Municipal Utilities District is preparing for the final walkthrough of the newly completed compost facility on Williamette in Kingsland.

The KMUD Board of Directors discussed the completion and final plans of the new compost facility on Monday. The project was completed by Skyblue Utilities Inc. at an estimated cost of $475,000.

The projected savings from the facility is between $45,000 and $50,000 every year, officials said. The facility is currently fully operational, but will not have any material processed until the Spring of 2013. The facility will use aerobic compost methods to convert solid waste into useable compost mulch.
