Texting while driving ban in M’LakesNovember 15, 2012, 7:45 pm by Adam Troxtell
Meadowlakes has joined many other Texas cities by passing an ordinance that bans texting while driving in the city limits. The ordinance, which the city council passed unanimously in their Tuesday meeting, deems it unlawful to "view, read, write, send or compose an electronic message or manually engage other applications software” on a cell phone or similar hand held devices while operating a vehicle in Meadowlakes. This also applies to operators of golf carts. City Manager Johnnie Thompson said city officials and council members all agree this is a move to preempt any potential texting while driving problem within Meadowlakes. "Everyone’s aware of it, and all of the council members have dealt with it in the past,” Thompson said. "That’s not necessarily in Meadowlakes, but they’ve seen it in the surrounding area or farther out from that.” For the full story, see Friday's Highlander.
