MF seeks water conservation grant

March 19, 2013, 9:00 pm by Adam Troxtell

A grant offered by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA)could be used to fund water conservation efforts in Marble Falls.

The City Council authorized the submission of an application by city officials to become involved with the LCRA's water conservation cost-share program, which is available to firm water customers. If approved, the program could provide up to $40,000 to extend the city's reuse of type 1effluent to irrigate public parks and recreation facilities.

"[The LCRA] understands the value of reuse,” City Manager Ralph Hendricks, who presented the grant program to Council in their meeting Tuesday night, said. "The LCRA contacted both me and the mayor to tell us we should apply for this grant. They want to help us by helping them by partially funding our reuse program.”

During the same Tuesday meeting, Council awarded a contract to SK Nelson Construction of Burnet to install the second phase of the type 1 effluent irrigation system, known as purple pipe, from Avenue J to South Main Street.
