Leanderís Zack Noska and Garrett Venner combined for five hits and four RBI to lead the Lions to a 6-3 win over Marble Falls Saturday in the regular season finale for both team at Marble Falls.
Noska, who bats third, and Venner, the cleanup hitter for the Lions, kept the bats hot all day as the Lions spoiled Marble Fallsí chances at the District 25-4A title.
Marble Falls lost its final two games against the Lions and Dripping Springs beat Cedar Park twice in the same span.
Marble Falls (21-7 and 13-5) will represent the district as the No. 2 seed against an Austin ISD school in the bi-district round of the playoffs.
Leadner will be the third seed and Dripping Springs the top seed. Vista Ridge nailed down the fourth spot.
Leander broke the game open in the top of the seventh inning when Venner smashed an RBI triple off Cole Ridgely to right field to break a 3-3 tie. Ridgely, the winning pitcher on Tuesday in a complete game, gutted out a gritty performance.
Ridgely scattered nine hits with eight strikeouts and walked two.
But an infield single by Taylor Sugar, a walk and Vennerís triple chased the Marble Falls senior.
Stacy Heinatz came on in relief and Noska greeted the hard-throwing Heinatz with another triple to push the score to 5-3. Patrick Glaze, the losing pitcher in Game 1 of the series, singled in Noska for the 6-3 score.
Marble Falls loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but Domenic Patterson struck out against Leanderís Matt Falloon to end the game
Falloon pitched a complete game and allowed eight hits, one walk and struck out eight Mustangs.
Marble Fallsí Heinatz and Jimmy Damico both had two hits each and second baseman Mike Richardson had a clutch hit to help the Mustangs to a 3-run third inning. Richardson drove in two runs with a solid single.
Marble Falls led 3-1 after three innings, but Leander tandem of Venner and Noska provide RBI-hits in the fifth to tie the game at 3-3.
Leander was the only team in the district to take a series against the Mustangs in district play.
Marble Falls had solo district losses to Cedar Park, Vista Ridge and Dripping Springs before losing its final two against Leander.
