Marble Falls and Burnet will send eight athletes to the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation state qualifying meet at Dragon Stadium in Round Rock Friday and Saturday.
Most of the team will run Friday.
"We’ve had some small meets, but this is the first big one,’’ said coach Anthony Torns, who has coordinated the running for athletes in Burnet County this summer.
Cody Schulz heads the group of athletes. The Marble Falls graduate and Angelo State-bound athlete will run the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes at Round Rock. He will compete in the 17-18 division.
"Cody has looked good, he just hasn’t had any competition,’’ Torns said.
Schulz’s sister Natalie Schulz will compete in the 15-16 girls hurdle events. She wil run the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles.
Chase Martin (also in the 15 and 16 girls) will run both hurdles and the 200-meter dash.
Maddie Johnson will compete in the 17-18 girls 300 hurdles.
Tatum Hopkins will run the 100, 200 and 400 in the 9-10 girls division.
Lauren Loader, an incoming freshmen at Marble Falls, will compete in the 13-13 girls. She will high jump and run the 200 and 400 meters.
Burnet will also have two athletes competing in the meet.
Brock Foster, a premier sprinter for Burnet, will compete in the 15-16 boys division. Foster will run the 100, 200 and long jump.
Cole Woodrum of Bjuret will run both hurdle events in the 15-16 boys division.
The region includes athletes from Burnet and Llano counties and stretches south to San Antonio.
The state meet July 25-28 in Corpus Christi. The top three runners with the best times or efforts will advance to state. Everyone is running against the clock.
