Triathlon returns for 13th run

The Marble Falls Triathlon returns to town on Sunday for its 13th running at Lakeside Park.
The triathlon starts at 7 a.m. Sunday with an intermediate division and the sprint division.
Competitors can sign up from noon to 5 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express on US Highway 281.
The intermediate triathlon is a 1k meter swim, a 23-mile bike ride and a 4.4 run. All of the competition will be headquartered at Lakeside Park.
The swim starts the event with a swim headed up Lake Marble Falls. Swimmers will swim out to a buoy and then have most of the swim with the current.
The triathlon will attract about 10 to 15 professional triathletes. Competitors will be divided by age and start in waves.
The bike ride includes going up the big hill past the river and out to state highway 71 and will have a turnaround on 71. The run will start and end at the park.
The sprint triathlon distances include a 500 meter swim, a 12-mile bike ride and a two-mile race.
The event attracts athletes from all over the United States and abroad. The Hill Country always supports the triathlon well, said Mario Gonzales, founder and director of the tournament.
He said like always he needs volunteers to help run the event.
Winners in respective division earn granite trophies.
