Mustangs fall, 59-37

Marble Falls didn’t carry much emotion into Friday’s contest against Boerne Champion and the Chargers rolled in a 59-37 victory over the Mustangs at Mustang Stadium.
Boerne Champion (3-0) used a solid running attack led by shifty junior Travis Pospisil to take command early and were never really threatened by the Mustangs.
Pospisil carried the football 24 times for 304 yards and scored six touchdowns.
His 57-yard run on the sixth snap from scrimmage set the tone for a big offensive night from the Chargers.
Pospisil had two scoring runs of 57 yards and one of nine yards. He also caught scoring passes of nine, two and 10 yards.
Champion scored on its first three possessions, covering 71, 63 and 54 yards to take a 21-3 lead with 2:58 left in the first quarter.
Marble Falls (2-2) cut the margin to 21-9 on a 44-yard strike from sophomore quarterback Brennen Wooten to senior Garrett Gray with 48 seconds left in the first quarter.
Marble Falls trailed 42-9 with just more than five minutes left in the first half when Pospisil ran in from nine yards. Marble Falls offense had just six snaps in the second quarter when Champion took command.
Marble Falls regrouped at halftime, trialing 45-16.
For the game, the two teams combined for 96 points, 1,066 yards of offense and 24 penalties for 223 yards.
All of it in a steady rain.
Wooten finished with 20 completions for 337 yards. His 20 of 36 night, including three touchdown passes of 44 to Gray, 12 to Zuri Buchanan and 35 to J.T. Watson.
Wooten also had a 75-yard touchdown run to make up for several quarterback sacks against the sophomore.
Keith Jerome added a 74-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 52-30 with 9:38 left. A failed onside kick attempt, set up Boerne Champion with a short field and the Chargers cashed in with a 10-yard scoring pass from sophomore Josh Green to Pospisil.
Watson’s score came with 6:23 left in the game.
