Marble Falls picks up tempo

Marble Fallsí boys basketball team is having fun again.
"Itís hard to do this if youíre not having fun,Ē Marble Falls coach Neil Laminack said. "I told them yesterday (Friday) just to have fun.Ē
The Mustangs played relaxed and up-tempo over the weekend in the Smithville Tournament.
The team split four games in the tournament to push the teamís season record to 5-11.
The Mustangs guards came through with an excellent tempo and pushed the basketball throughout the teamís final win over Bellville, 50-40.
The Mustangs outscored Bellville 22-10 in the first quarter led by a quick start from point guard Aidin Parnell. Parnell scored nine of his 14 points in the first quarter.
Marble Falls capitalized on its quickness and ball movement to take the win.
Junior post Danny Rivara also had a big final game with 17 points and paced the team on the glass.
Rivara earned all tournament and games of 25, 24, 12 and 17 points.
The Mustangs scored four 3-pointers against Bellville and kept the Brahmas at a distance after setting the tone early.
Scorers for the Mustangs against Bellville were Rivara with 17, Parnell 14, Zuri Buchanan eight, Ben Stripling five and Jordan Wright and J.T. Watson with three points each.
In the opener of the tournament, the Mustangs ran into a talented Manor Mustangs squad and fell, 88-44. Manor scored 28 points each in the first two quarters and were ahead 56-24 at halftime.
Rivara had 20 of his 25 points in the first half. Watson scored six and DíAnthony Wall added four for the Mustangs.
In Game 2 on Friday, the Mustangs closed strong but lost 55-49 to Caldwell.
Rivara scored 24 points, including 13 in the final quarter.
Stripling scored seven against Caldwell.
Marble Falls outscored the Hornets, 21-16, in the fourth quarter.
Marble Falls blasted Austin Eastside Memorial, 69-32. Rivara scored 12 and Wason 10 to pace the win over Eastside Memorial.
The top teams in the 12-team tournament were Galveston Ball, Manor and Katy John Paul.
