English earns historic win

The Faith Academy Flames won their 78th straight district game Friday when they rolled past Temple Holy Trinity Catholic in a 54-20 district win at Faith Academy.
For coach Jerry English, the mark surpasses a run of 77 straight district game he acccomplished from 1979 to 1987 while coaching at Sweeny High School.
Faith Acadmey improved to 15-4 with the district opening victory.
"Wow what an accomplishment, and thank you for bringing the coaches along for the ride,’’ Faith Academy coach Englishsaid. "Please do not interpret this as me thinking that the string of wins is over, but we should all be so proud of the last seven teams and then the 2013-14 team for breaking the record. I am really proud of these girls.’’
Against Holy Trinity, the Flames were consistent throughout the game and took a 12-4 lead after one quarter and built a 25-10 advantage at halftime.
The Lady Flames finished the game off with a 17-2 fourth quarter run to seal the victory.
Six Lady Flames scored in the game led by Taylor Denton with 20, Juliette Fisher nine, Joanna Piatek and Sierra Brinkley with eight points each.
Denton was eight of 19 shooting follwed by Brinkley with four of five and Fisher four of six shooting.
Hanah Cozby finished with six points and Kristen Cherry with three points.
The Lady Flames shot 41 percent (23 of 56) from the floor and pulled down 37 rebounds. Cherry had 10 rebounds and Fisher nine rebounds.
The team has four more regular season games.
February 4 is Parent Night. The team’s Senior Night is Feb. 11.
The Lady Flames take on Austin Hill Country Tuesday at home and then travel the Vanguard for a Friday clash.
