Osornio double downs Leander

February 15, 2013, 9:00 pm by Adam Troxtell

Two goals from senior Danny Osornio secured the Marble Falls boys soccer team their first victory in district with a 2-1 home win over Leander Friday night.

Osornio scored his seventh and eighth goals of the season either side of halftime to stop a two game winless streak for the Mustangs. After suffering defeat at the hands of Vandegrift and Cedar Park away from home in the first two district encounters, head coach Mike Nave said he was very happy to see his team get one in the win column.

"It feels fantastic, and it’s a big deal,” Nave said. "I’ve been trying to keep them positive. It’s a long district season and you just had to forget about those first two games.”

In a fairly even encounter, the Mustangs got on the board first when Osornio scored with seven minutes left in the first half. That goal was canceled out by Leader junior Brian Omondi’s thundering strike midway through the second half. But with minutes to go, it was Osornio who popped up again to send Marble Falls fans home happy.
