Lady Mustangs sweep three at Kerrville

Marble Falls Lady Mustangs rolled through three opponents in pool play in the Kerrville Tivy Tournament on Thursday.

The Lady Mustangs opened the tournament with a 16-0 blanking of Bandera behind four home runs by Makenzie Carpenter (two), Amanda Thomas and Hayley Fishbeck.

Carpenter threw a 11-hitter with 11 strikeouts.

In the only close game, the Lady Mustangs outlasted Medina Valley, 7-5, with Carpenter allowing five hits, three earned runs while striking out seven.

Three Lady Mustangs had two-hit games against Medina Valley, including Thomas, Catie Whitecotton and Zoey Schoch.

The Lady Mustangs closed the day with Thomas throwing a no-hitter in a 20-0 win in four innings over San Antonio Marshall. Thomas struck out six. Thomas also belted a homer among her three hits in four plate appearances.

The Mustangs will return to Kerrville on Saturday for bracket play in the tournament.

For the year, Thomas has four homers.

Carpenter has run her strikeout total to 77. The freshman righthander is averaging two strikeouts per inning for the season.

Marble Falls is 8-1 on the season and will open District 25-4A play on Tuesday against the Leander Lions at Marble Falls.
