Carolyn Estella Hand Steele, 99, born on May 13, 1913 died on March 3.

Born in Marshall County, Indiana and she came to Bayside, Texas as a baby with her parents, Herbert and Estella Hand. She grew up and attended school in the Copano Bay area, and then later attended a finishing school in San Antonio. She married Elmer "Duke” Steele in 1933 and they had one child, Mary Patricia "Tricia.” Carolyn was very proud of her daughter and her many accomplishments. Her husband Duke died in 1952, leaving her a widow before the age of forty. Carolyn later became the secretary for Southwestern Graphite Mine in the Burnet area, and when she retired she had worked for them for twenty-six years. Carolyn lived on Lake Buchanan in Council Creek area since 1962, was very active within the community, and remained at the lake the rest of her years.

Those who passed on before Carolyn are her parents, Herbert and Estella, and her siblings, Herbert, Robert, and Mary Hand; husband Elmer "Duke” Steele; her son-in-law Malcolm Fluitt, and great-granddaughter Rachael Carolyne Rhoads.

Carolyn’s greatest legacy was her family, to which she was a treasure. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Patricia Fluitt; grandchildren Patty Johnson and husband Jimmy, Logan Fluitt and wife Tracy, Norman Fluitt, Laura Logan, Carolyn Bippert and husband Charles, and Robert Fluitt and wife Jimmie. She also leaves behind 10 great- grandchildren, Charity Spearman and fiancé Derek, Cody Brandt and fiancé Monica, James Fluitt and Amanda, Cameron Fluitt, Rachael Logan, Devin Fluitt, Brad Bippert, McCauley Rhoads, Derek Fluitt, and BlayneBippert;  as well as six great-great- grandchildren.  All of which will miss her dearly.

Visitation was 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6 at Edgar’s Funeral Home in Burnet.  Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Thursday at Edgar’s, and afterwards internment was in San Antonio at Mission Park South Cemetery.
