Marble Falls volleyball team dropped its District 25-4A opener Friday at Leander against the Lady Lions.

Leander won in three, 25-11, 25-21, 25-11. The Lady Mustangs were led on offense by Hayley Fishbeck with 10 kills on defense by Lacie Long with 14 digs.

"Leander has a very respectable team with two great hitters who hit from their left side,’’ Marble Falls coach Julie Downs said. "The Lady Mustangs made adjustments in their game to play more competitively. However, errors, missed serves and a 9-3 start to game three created a loss of momentum that the Mustangs were not able to overcome.  We fought to the last point but never closed the margin.’’

The Lady Mustangs are 0-1 in district and 14-7 overall with a Tuesday match against Cedar Park on the road.

"We will continue to practice strong, condition hard and prepare for the ultimate goal of making it to the playoffs,’’ Downs said. "I have confidence in our girls and their abilities and believe that we can perform better and be successful.

Other statistical leaders were: Haley Coulter and Catie Whitecotton with four kills each, Whitecotton with four blocks, Kaitlyn Naumann with seven digs and Haley Coulter with 188 assists.

Other scores against Leander were a 25-19, 25-17 by the freshmen and a 25-19, 20-25, 25-12 loss by the JV.
