Marble Falls wins district opener over Tigers

Marble Falls is in the early lead in District 25-4A girls basketball after taking a 53-48 win over Dripping Springs Tuesday night at Max Copeland Gym.
Marble Falls Hayley Fishbeck made an insdie shot with nine seconds left off a steal by Katy Bartels to seal the win.
Sarah Stripling scored 23 points to lead the scoring for the Lady Mustangs, who are 12-5 on the season and 1-0 in district.
Vista Ridge and Rouse were also winners Tuesday in district openers. Marble Falls retrns to action against Leander Friday.
Leander was off on opening night in the district.

Faith Academy continues to win

Senior guard Bailey Brinkley scored nine points and helped the Faith Academy Flames stave off the Canyon Lake Hawks in a 44-28 semifinal victory for the Flames in the Johnson City Tournament.

Marble Falls faces Antonian Saturday

Marble Falls girls’ basketball team rolled through its first two games in the Seguin Matador Tournament and will face Antonian, a powerhouse private school from San Antonion, in Saturday’s semifinal.

The semifinal is 11:30 a.m. at Seguin.

The Lady Mustangs are 9-3 going into Saturday’s action and have won nine of their last 10 outings.

They beat San Antonio Jefferson, 82-19, putting four players in double figures. Haley Stephens led the effort with 20 points and four steals.

Sarah Stripling added 17, Jessica England 13 and Katy Bartels 12 points.

Marble Falls shot 57 percent from the floor on 37 of 65 attempts. Marble Falls had 31 steals with Bartels collecting six.

In Friday’s second game, the Lady Mustangs crushed Eagle Pass, 70-15. Bartels had 14, Stephens 11 and Blanca Fonseca 10 points.

The Lady Mustangs shot 54 percent on 32 of 59 attempts. Bartels was seven of eight shooting and Stephens and Fonseca were five of eight on field goal attempts.

Marble Falls girls basketball team beat Del Valle Tuesday 48-29 to improve its record to 7-3. The Lady Mustangs will play Friday in the Seguin Tournament.

Marble Falls wins home opener with senior point guard Collin Edwards scoring 22 points to lead the Mustangs. The win upped Marble Falls record to 2-1.
