Faith Academy demolishes John Paul team

The Faith Academy Flames remained undefeated in their first season of 11-man football Friday night, routing John Paul II High School of Schertz, 53-20, before a rain-soaked Homecoming crowd at Marble Falls Middle School field.

Mustangs confidence riding high after historic showing

When Mike Richardson’s family moved from California to Texas, the first residence they had was in Boerne. Richardson was a fifth-grader.

One of the players he got to know when he first came to Texas was Jake Margozewitz.

Margozewitz was the cornerback responsible for playing man-on-man with Garrett Gray Thursday night in the historic 62-55 victory for Marble Falls.

Flames win third in a row

Faith Academy backs Jason Byrd and Austin Ellis combined for 188 yards rushing and Byrd rushed and passed for touchdowns to lead the Flames to a 28-20 win over St. Mary’s Hall of San Antonio Friday in San Antonio.

Wingback Brian Freeman scored twice on runs of 11 and 57 yards in the team’s third straight victory of the season. Jacob Metcalf led the Flame defense with three interceptions.

Byrd opened the scoring with a 39-yard pass to Seth McAnally with 4:16 left in the first quarter. The scoring drive took three plays to cover 57 yards.

Family move pays off as son sets state passing record

The Richardson family had a plan to give their three sons a chance to succeed on the football field.

Mark it up as a success. The plan is working for Paul and Tawny Richardson, the proud parents of the new Texas high school record holder for single-game passing yardage.

Faith wins at San Antonio

 Brian Freeman scored twice and Seth McAnally and Jason Byrd added scores to lead the Faith Academy Flames to a 28-20 win over St. Mary’s Hall of San Antonio Friday night in a private school football game.

Faith Academy is 3-0 on the season with the victory.

Marble Falls sets state passing mark in victory

Marble Falls quarterback Mike Richardson is the state record holder for passing yardage after a brilliant performance Thursday night in Boerne.

The senior quarterback had a big grin on his face afterwards and was more than happy to credit his teammates for setting the standard for passing yards in a Texas high school football game.

Marble Falls beats rival Burnet

Marble Falls coaches put special emphasis on the defense in preparation for the Burnet game. It paid off as the defense responded with some big plays and the offense produced some big numbers Friday night in a 51-34 shootout win over rival Burnet before a full house at Mustang Stadium.

Marble Falls outgained Burnet, 502-346, in total yards.

Boerne Champion relies on passing game

Marble Falls’ defensive secondary will get one of its biggest tests this week when the Mustangs travel to Boerne to face the Boerne Champion Chargers at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at BISD Stadium.

Marble Falls throws the ball a lot. Boerne throws it more.
